Want to jazz up your Book Description?
One of the most common questions I get via email is how to add bold and italics to book descriptions on Amazon. It’s actually a lot easier than you might think and you don’t need to know any html.
Download this Tutorial as a PDF. (Right click to save.)
1. Sign in to Author Central
Go to Amazon Author Central and sign in. (If you do not have an account, you will need to create one.)
3. The Books Page: Adding a Book Step 1
3. The Books Page: Adding a Book Step 2
4. Select Your Book
From the list, select the book for which you want to change, add or edit the product description.
(I’m going to use Last Minute Love Letters for this Tutorial as it needs some help.)
5. Your Book
The Editorial Reviews Tab will already be highlighted.
Click the Edit button next to Product Description.
6. Edit Your Product Descripton
The box that pops up gives you a simple rich text editor that allows you to add bold, italic, bullets and numbers.
All you need to do is highlight your text and apply the text decoration of your choice.
Click Preview when you are done so that you can see how it looks.
7. Saving Your Changes
If you are happy with your book description, click Save Changes.
Click Go Back if you want to make additional changes.
Your book description changes should be live on Amazon in a few hours. (Amazon will tell you it can take up to 5 business days but I have never had it take more than a couple of hours.)
8. Check your Product Page
Make sure you come back in a few hours to check your changes and make sure everything looks the way you want it. If you need to make some adjustments, Author Central is just a click away!
9. Advanced Book Description Editing
You can make your book description pop even more with a little extra work. Amazon gives you only the basic tools to work with, but I have a couple of tricks that will make your book description look just like the pros.
Part 2 of this Tutorial addresses these advanced options. I’ll have that tutorial up in the next day or so.
Please note, the advanced options aren’t difficult but they require a few extra steps.
I hope you found this Tutorial helpful. If there’s anything else you’d like to know how to do, please let me know.
